Since the beginning of recorded history, Iran/Persia has been one of the most important world civilizations. Iran remains a distinct civilization today despite its status as a major Islamic state with broad regional influence and its deep integration into the global economy through its vast energy reserves. Yet the close attention paid to Iran in recent decades stems from the impact of the 1979 revolution, which unleashed ideological shock waves throughout the Middle East that reverberate to this day. Many observers look at Iran through the prism of the Islamic Republic's adversarial relationship with the US, Israel, and Sunni nations in its region, yet as Michael Axworthy shows in Iran: What Everyone Needs to Know®, there is much more to contemporary Iran than its fraught and complicated foreign relations. He begins with a concise account of Iranian history from ancient times to the late twentieth century, following that with sharp summaries of the key events since the1979 revolution. The final section of the book focuses on Iran today--its culture, economy, politics, and people--and assesses the challenges that the nation will face in coming years. Iran will be an essential overview of a complex and important nation that has occupied world headlines for nearly four decades.
Although principles and regulations on political parties, freedom of press and media, human rights, Ethnic groups, religious and foreign affairs underlined in Constitution of Iran have been followed by Islamic Republic of Iran; the principles and regulations have been interpreted variously based on domestic political situations and balance of forces. Revolution, reform, and reaction comprise the respective fortunes of modern Iran, Turkey, and Egypt. The Power Triangle attributes the different outcomes to the power struggle between the military, security, and political institutions. Royal ascendency in Iran made it vulnerable to revolution; military dominance in Turkey ushered democracy; and Egypt's police state produced entrenched authoritarianism.

A woman coming from an island call Iran.Yes, is true; Iran as geographically is not an island but since the revolution, practically functioning as an Island. It has isolated itself from the rest of the world and they did the same to Iran too.Foreigners are frightened to visit Iran due to the way the media wrongly represents the country and Iranians are not allowed to travel easily to most countries. Thus, Iranian do not know many real things about other countries and they don't know the reality about Iran either. For them the middle east is this: They all are in a direct war with the USA; they all wear veils; is a desert; the language is Arabic and the only religion is Islam.NO, absolutely no.There are at least seventeen countries in this rejoin and there is a diversity of language, culture and climate. Because of all these misunderstandings, I feel imprisoned and living in a far island by no means to communicate and no opportunity to show how Iran really like. This book is about the smallest community far from big cities which they are unique and they show transparently their thought, beliefs, interests and etc.In contrary to people living in a city with all censorship in their mind.
